A networked home has many benefits. Apps facilitate numerous day-to-.day routines, make leisure activities even more fun and control consumer electronics and household appliances. Wireless technologies are also used to reliably monitor and operate domestic technology equipment. The Internet of Things combines all this in an intelligently networked life environment.
However, each purchase decision for an individual smart component can also result in increased insecurity on part of the consumer. The complete systems currently available on the market often turn out to be isolated islands that do not support the integration of sensors and actuators provided by other manufacturers in any way. The user must trust in the vendor's ability to remain on the market and offer compatible components in the future.


The smart home system AFRISOLab, based on the battery-less and wireless EnOcean technology, can assure interoperability with other systems.


The AFRISOhome multi-purpose gateway serves as the basis of the AFRISOLab system and offers the full range of wireless technologies. EnOcean, Z-Wave, ZigBee or Wireless-M-Bus – the gateway lets you network actuators, sensors and alarm units using diverse wireless standards and operate them via the AFRISOhome app.


Great if it is not needed. Even better if you have it: for example, the AFRISO WaterControl 01 shut-off valve which automatically closes the main water pipe if a sensor (for example, placed below showers or bathtubs, in the vicinity of dishwashers or washing machines or in other critical installation areas) detects a water leak. The AFRISOhome app immediately sends a message to the user's smartphone. The benefits and added security offered by the system by far outweigh the one-time effort involved in setting up an AFRISOLab system.
Decision-making for smart home systems
Many smart home manufacturers use their own, proprietary wireless protocols so that their systems cannot be networked with other systems. This results in island solutions and consumer dependence on individual vendors. In addition, the sensor systems require power, and the corresponding cables are often difficult to route. Battery operation is an alternative, but it incurs maintenance, extra cost and potential failure. Finally, many systems cannot be operated manually and on site. This means that users have to rely on their smartphones, for example, in order to set the room temperature.

AFRISO develops and manufactures sensors and actuators on the basis of the EnOcean technology and is a member of the EnOcean Alliance which ensures interoperability of the products. The battery-less and wireless sensor technology allows for high flexibility, enormous time and costs savings and an extremely broad application range. Precisely on this basis, AFRISOLab already offers suitable solutions for heating system control, lighting, sun protection, security and plant protection. In addition, AFRISO keeps developing further industry solutions for the HVAC trade in order to integrate important parameters from the field of building and plant technology.
AFRISO can rely on a high degree of vertical manufacturing integration in Germany. This enables the efficient, fast and cost-effective implementation of customised solutions.

Scalability and flexibility as required by the customer
AFRISOLab makes a step-by-step start into the networked world easy. Direct communication between the sensors and the respective actuators is possible. The users therefore benefit from a wireless technology without having to do without the operating characteristics they are used to. A central AFRISOhome building controller is provided for linking different plant components or for mobile operation. Due to its modular design, this also allows the parallel operation and the interaction of several wireless standards. The wireless modules EnOcean as well as Z-Wave are already "on board"; Wireless M-Bus is optionally available. Further slots for wireless modules cater to future developments.

At home stays at home
However, in one aspect, AFRISO will always remain a completely closed system: security. All user data and passwords are stored and processed locally on the building controller. In addition, AFRISOLab uses the same encryption mechanisms as online banking systems.
