Dust Concentration Measurement Systems S303 and S305 with TÜV Approval


Triboelectricity is a type of contact electrification in which two electrically non-conducting bodies become electrically charged after coming into contact with one another (friction). The strength of the triboelectrical charge in case of a friction contact depends of the relative speed between the two contacting bodies. The charge increases with increasing speed. The friction of the contact surfaces also causes an increase in temperature which changes the electrical properties.

The new AFRISO-EURO-INDEX dust concentration measurement systems S303 and S305 with TÜV approval are designed for quantitative and qualitative determination of dust emissions in all industries with dry flue gases.

The triboelectrical effect is used for measurement. Particles come into contact with conducting surfaces which causes a charge transfer between the particles and the sensor. This small charge provides a signal which the electronic system evaluates in a measuring range of 0.1-1,000 mg/m3. Both systems have a probe head with complete, integrated electronics (microprocessor, RS 422/485 interface, 4-20 mA output, 2 voltage-free changeover relays) and an integrated stainless steel probe rod (length 500 mm) which is installed in the gas pipe. Due to their compact design, the systems lend themselves for stationery installation; additional evaluation units are not required. The measuring systems are supplied with AC 230 V, AC 115 V or DC 24 V and are suitable for a maximum pressure of 2 bar, temperatures of the measured medium of up to 300 °C and ambient temperatures of -20 °C to +45 °C. The systems are calibrated by means of gravimetric comparison measurements, the dew point difference must be at least +5K. The measuring range is set up manually in the case of the S303 dust concentration measurement system and automatically in the case of S305. In terms of dimensions and specifications, S305 is identical to S303, but features TÜV approval (13th, 17th, 27th and 30th BImSchV and TA Luft) as well as a number of additional functions such as PIN code lock, automatic drift compensation, compensation of varying gas speeds, mg/m³ calibration, remote setup and data transfer via RS 422 interface.

The systems are optionally available with preset alarm threshold, corresponding software and other probe lengths. Applications of the S303 and S305 dust concentration measurement systems include filter monitoring or process and emission measurements in combustion facilities and power plants.
